The Lackey Chargers earned their second win of the season, defeating Great Mills by a score of 49-14 on Friday night in front of their home crowd. The offense accounted for 128 yards in the air and 350 yards on the ground and the defense only gave up one touchdown, their first of the season.
Senior Robert “Boogie” Middleton was very methodical in pacing the Chargers offense. He had 12 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns and was also 6-9 in the air for 113 yards, including a touchdown and an interception. Senior Jayson Wilmer had 6 carries for 38 yards and also caught a 32 yard touchdown pass to end the half, his 2nd touchdown of the quarter. Senior D’Anthony Washington had five carries for 92 yards and a touchdown and continues to be the heartbeat of this team. Whenever the Chargers need a big play, D produces and did so on this night with a huge block for Middleton on a big run to swing momentum in Lackey’s favor. Junior Gio Romero also had 9 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. Senior Justin McIntyre led the Chargers with two catches for 36 yards on the evening and Jonathan Bridgett had a fifteen yard touchdown reception to finalize the scoring on the night.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Chargers had one major letdown near the end of the first quarter but were otherwise stout against the run and pass of the Hornets. Senior Mekhi Higgins was a dominant force up the middle and Dalano Washington had two more sacks to increase his total on the season to four. Senior Linn Jordan continues to be electric with the ball in his hands, returning a kickoff 85 yards to set the Chargers up with their first score of the game.
The Chargers will host Calvert on Friday, September 21st at 7:00 in a rematch of their week 10 encounter last year.
