The Lackey Wrestling team had a successful start to the season with a 69-12 win at home last night against a growing McDonough team, in front of a large home crowd.
Junior, Brandon Jordan started off Lackey in the win column at 152 lbs. The match started off close, but Jordan was able to secure a pin in 4:37 of the 3rd period.
Also a junior, Jacob Ham followed that up making quick work in pinning his opponent in just 10 seconds at 160 pounds.
At 170lbs. junior captain Cameron Stuart nearly matched Ham getting the fall in 17 seconds.
Senior De’Tron Dancy showed his versatility and skills on his feet hitting a couple quick takedowns before getting the pin in 54 seconds.
In his first varsity match of his career, sophomore Lanny Weese was in a battle at 195lbs. before taking the victory. Lanny had battled back and tied the score at 7-7, coming back from a 7-2 deficit before McDonough’s wrestler could no longer continue.
Senior Captain Brandon Ream and juniors Jaxson Vayro and Earlie Harris each recorded quick pins to run the team score up to 48-0. They were all 3 only on the mat for a combined total of 2:17.
Sophomore Jeremy McBain racked up 5 takedowns and dominated his opponent by putting up double digit scores, winning by a score of 15-8.
In one of the more exciting matches of the night, and also making his varsity debut, freshman Wilson Martinez-Lopez and his opponent came out firing off takedowns. Tied at 4-4, Wilson turned it on, getting the fall in just under 2 minutes.
Evan Bugert and David Miller were both able to secure the final two pins of the evening for Lackey. Junior Evan Bugert was able to get a quick takedown and pin in 1:09, while David Miller, up a weight class, was able to get the fall in 1:56.
McDonough was able to win the final two matches of the evening, with the final score ending 69-12. Next up, Lackey will be heading to Chopticon High School for a 10 team dual tournament Friday, December 7th and Saturday December 8th.
