On Monday, October 7, the Chargers traveled into Waldorf to play the Thomas Stone Cougars in the first game of the two teams home and away series for the 2019 campaign. The Chargers controlled the game in many aspects, including scoring chances and possession. The Cougars’ backline provided an irksome challenge for the Chargers attacking players. This forced the Chargers to start taking chances from outside the 18 and utilizing the wings more.
The Chargers’ first goal came from Evan Bugert from about the 20-yard mark on the field. This closed out the first half with a 1-0 score. In the second half, the two teams played a defensive back and forth game until the final 15 minutes of the game. The Cougars hopped on a loose ball to equal the score at 1. Within 15 seconds, Jeremy McBain would strike the ball up and over the Stone goalie to regain the Chargers’ lead. That would prove to be the goal that sealed the win for the Chargers.
That concludes the Chargers’ regular-season away games. The Chargers will host the St. Charles Spartans on October 11. Kick-off is at 6 PM. Be loud, we will make you proud!
